    Ultrasonic Trim Knife (UTK)

    SONICUT-2™ ULTRASONIC TRIM KNIFE (UTK)

    In 1983, TMI teamed with Branson Ultrasonics Corp., the industry leader in ultrasonic technology and equipment manufacturing, to develop the Ultrasonic Trim Knife (UTK).

    The UTK is a lightweight (2.25 lb) hand held tool for continuous cutting of uncured fiberglass, aramid or carbon prepreg and honeycomb materials up to 1.0 inch thickness.

    Prior to the UTK hand cutting precise patterns of advanced composite materials was a tedious and time consuming process.

    The UTK is safe, provides pattern shape versatility and produces precise cuts which do not disturb fiber orientation. Hand and arm fatigue associated with knives and shears are eliminated.

    The UTK can be adapted to a mechanized x-y cutting table with ease. The same advantage of precise and clean cutting is realized.
